Amenorrhea is the absence of menstrual periods in a woman during her reproductive years. It is classified as:
Primary Amenorrhea – Menstruation has not started by the age of 16 years.
Secondary Amenorrhea – The absence of menstrual periods for six months or more in a woman who previously had regular cycles.
Amenorrhea is natural before puberty, during pregnancy, breastfeeding, and after menopause. However, other causes may include:
Disorders of the hypothalamus or pituitary gland
Ovarian dysfunction
Uterine abnormalities
Vaginal structural issues
Absence of menstrual cycles
Headaches, vision problems (pituitary gland disorders)
